Description

“Deserted island” scenarios make for an exciting week at this overnight camp, with plenty of skills, challenges, games, and imaginative play.

Castaway Survival is an action-packed week that boasts an engaging array of activities, skills, projects, and challenges. Campers and their instructors find themselves on a “deserted island.” They must work together to thrive throughout the week with minimal gear, survival skills, and whatever the tide washes in.

Each student will have the opportunity to stretch their imagination and push their comfort zone physically, mentally, and emotionally in a safe environment supported by experienced staff.

Castaway Camp allows kids to explore their creativity, push their limits, collaborate, and deepen their gratitude.

Campers will enjoy:

  • Taking part in cultivated experiences that encourage teamwork
  • Creating fires and learning fire-tending techniques
  • Taking part in minimalist camping using survival skills
  • Learning to tie useful knots for minimal camping needs
  • Hunting bullfrogs and learning to make fishing tools from items found in nature
  • Cultivating healthy group dynamics through interpersonal communication and leadership opportunities
  • Practicing responsible care of resources, including the gear you brought with you
  • Taking responsibility for one’s self
  • Taking part in “Camper Council” check-ins each morning and evening
  • Building resilience and coping skills in the face of unforeseen challenges during crafted scenarios
  • Learning practical ways to stay safe and survive if they are ever lost in the woods
  • Thriving in nature with limited supplies

Volunteers will be arriving at 10:00am on Sunday and leave on Friday at 4:00pm and will be camping on the land with instructors and students.

Inclement Weather Plan: As an outdoor school, we enjoy spending summer camp days outside, rain and shine. At many of our parks, we have limited or no indoor space, and with the increased heat throughout summer we would like to let you know about some of our heat-related plans: We will take full advantage of the forest and the shade at our parks as it provides cooler temperatures We will limit high-energy games and activities. We will take more time for water breaks and hydration. Each Director will have spray bottles to mist and keep campers cool. At the parks that have water access, we will be using the lakes and rivers to our best advantage. You as a parent are always welcome to keep your child home if you feel that the Heat is not safe for your child. To support your child during high heat days is to pack extra water bottles, sunscreen, sun hats, sun shirts, and any clothing that can keep your child cool and limit sun exposure. There might be days when it is just too hot outside for camps to happen. There is the possibility of canceling camp on those days. We will reach out to you if we are planning to cancel a camp.
