Opportunities From: Wilderness Awareness School

Campers will step into a world of wonder at Enchanted Forest Overnight, an unforgettable multi-day adventure woven with stories, challenges, and the enchantment of the living woods.

This immersive overnight experience invites campers to become villagers of an enchanted land and journey deeper into the forest’s heart, where imagination intertwines with hands-on exploration and a new magical story unfolds each time they return. 

Villagers practice naming the creatures, plants, and patterns of the natural world while deepening their sense of relationship with the forest around them in imaginative ways. Throughout their stay, Enchanted Forest Villager’s days are filled attending magical lessons like:

✨ Wayfinding: learn how to read the quiet clues of the forest through games, activities, and ancient practices.

✨Potions: Villagers will learn to identify and ethically forage for ingredients from nature to harness their plant properties and powers, mixing potions around the campfire.

✨Creature Care: we’ll bring real and imaginary creatures to life through embodiment, games, and tracking. Learn how they move, communicate, hide, hunt, and help the ecosystem thrive.

✨Enchantments: creativity will fly while crafting a wand, staff, talisman, and other nature charms to take home. They will  learn the lore of different types of trees and what magical real life qualities each is said to hold. 

✨Labyrinth :  a mysterious realm of quests, riddles, puzzles, and obstacles. Villagers take on magical challenges building confidence with skills, teamwork, and forging memories with companions.

Volunteers will be arriving at 10:00am on Sunday and leave on Friday at 4:00pm and will be camping on the land with instructors and students. 

“Deserted island” scenarios make for an exciting week at this overnight camp, with plenty of skills, challenges, games, and imaginative play. 

Castaway Survival is an action-packed week that boasts an engaging array of activities, skills, projects, and challenges. Campers and their instructors find themselves on a “deserted island.” They must work together to thrive throughout the week with minimal gear, survival skills, and whatever the tide washes in.

Each student will have the opportunity to stretch their imagination and push their comfort zone physically, mentally, and emotionally in a safe environment supported by experienced staff.

Castaway Camp allows kids to explore their creativity, push their limits, collaborate, and deepen their gratitude.

Wilderness Survival Overnight is all about the skills. Campers stay engaged by learning all of our favorite survival skills and putting them to the test!

Campers will spend an exciting week honing their ability to survive in the wilderness! They’ll learn to build a fire, identify and harvest edible and medicinal plants, cook over an open fire, and create a shelter. We’ll teach knife safety and guide them through exciting adventures off-trail. Campers will connect with their fellow survivors as they support each other in learning and practicing their skills.

This overnight program builds on the skills taught at our Survival Skills Day Camp and goes much deeper, putting skills into practice and receiving more elaborate lessons.

Campers will enjoy:Discovering ancestral fire-making using the friction fire method and creating their own bow drill kitBuilding and tending their fire Identifying and harvesting wild ediblesBuilding their own survival shelterCrafting tools, baskets, or ropeLearning the safe use of knives as toolsHunting bullfrogsLearning practical ways to stay safe and survive if they are ever lost in the woodsEnjoying fun adventures off-trail

Volunteers will be arriving at 10:00am on Sunday and leave on Friday at 4:00pm and will be camping on the land with instructors and students. 

At Bowcraft Overnight, campers spend an exciting week crafting and shooting their own bow! 

This popular overnight camp walks older kids through the steps of building their own wooden longbow from a simple board. They’ll use a knife and file, and develop traditional and instinctive archery skills with their completed project. Campers will learn tactics for sneaking undetected through the forest, and experience exciting adventures off-trail. This camp is highly recommended for those who enjoy focusing on a project and working with hand tools.

Campers become one with the forest during Ranger Adventure Overnight, where they develop keen awareness skills and an ability to move through nature undetected.

Your camper will develop intuition and observation tools demonstrated by the ancient Scouts and Rangers of many cultures throughout the world. They’ll practice different ways of moving invisibly, dressing in camouflage, understanding Bird Language (the alarm system of the forest), tracking wildlife and human movement, and identifying edible plants. Those who enter the world of the Ranger will likely never see nature the same way again!

Please Note: This is a highly physical camp, and requires a certain level of independence and flexibility in order to be a good fit.
